Low-value care refers to treatments or services that don’t offer real value for patients, and in some cases may even cause harm. Low-value care is a pervasive problem in the U. S., with as much as $340 billion being spent on low-value or unnecessary care alone.[i] With health care spending projected to reach nearly 20% of GDP in the next decade,[ii] eliminating low-value care and the associated costs to our health care system is becoming increasingly critical.

How are organizations tackling this problem, and what can be done? During a webinar held on August 5 hosted by Going Below The Surface partner AMGA, AMGA members shared case studies on how their organizations are reducing low-value care. They also introduced the Going Below The Surface Roadmap for Addressing Low-Value Care and shared how organizations can use this guide for developing a strategy to address low-value care.
