As health systems continue to seek to improve quality of care, today's workforce shortages can hinder efforts. Given that literature suggests that it takes 17 years to turn original research into the benefit of patient care, there is a compelling need to expedite this process now more than ever.1 Implementation Science seeks to improve the quality of health care delivery by closing this gap of 'what we know versus what we do'.

Learn directly from UPMC project leads who sought to accelerate the uptake of AF guidelines into routine clinical practice by using Implementation Science to systematically implement an EHR-enabled, guideline-based AF pathway in the emergency department, which may improve outcomes in patients with AF.
This example may provide an understanding of how Implementation Science was used to identify barriers and solutions to increase adherence to AF guidelines. The speakers will share learnings and associated challenges when initiating and implementing the solutions at UPMC.
